You would have loved the rowing boat that the landlord had so thoughtfully provided. In the evening, from the lake, you could have observed how the tops of the fells glow auburn as the sun sets, and noticed the green weed tresses stream delicately in the absolutely clear water. You would have thrilled to the touch of careless bats' wings as they flicked past you chasing mosquitos low over the surface of the mirrored mere.

Alternatively, you could have stayed at our house and picked the courgettes and French beans, then we wouldn't have come back to a load of marrows and giant legumes.
